The Isaac Theatre Royal

The Isaac Theatre Royal

When Christchurch's Isaac Theatre Royal was threatened with demolition in the 1970s, supporters of the building rallied and formed a trust to save it. They were successful and soon began work to both modernise the structure and return it to something close to its former glory. By 2005 the process was largely completed. This view shows the renovated auditorium from the stage. The building was extensively damaged in the 2011 Christchurch earthquake and much of it had to be rebuilt – which was done in a replica style.
