Motatapu event

In 2005 the first adventure race was held at Motatapu, in the high country behind Arrowtown. By 2013 the event had expanded to five separate competitions – a 47-kilometre mountain-bike race, a 42-kilometre off-road marathon, a 15-kilometre run/walk, an off-road triathlon and a 49-kilometre four-peak traverse. As this image shows, runners and cyclists are sometimes found on the same challenging terrain.
