Martin Crowe inspects his knee brace at the New Zealand versus India match, part of the BNZ Centenary Series, in Napier, in 1995. The New Zealand cricketing star underwent a major knee operation in 1993 for a persistent injury he had received in a schoolboy rugby game. After the surgery Crowe was able to continue playing, but only with the help of a titanium brace. The continual strain on his knee led Crowe to retire from test cricket in 1996, at the early age of 33.
