AMI Stadium (1 o 2)

AMI Stadium

In Christchurch AMI Stadium – formerly called Lancaster Park and then Jade Stadium – saw heavy investment in new stands and facilities such as floodlights during the early 2000s. The ground, shown here during a National Provincial Championship game between Canterbury and Wellington in September 2010, was expected to be a major venue for the 2011 Rugby World Cup. But the 22 February 2011 earthquake caused extensive damage to the stadium, just over a year after the completion of the new Deans Stand, which held 13,000 people. The stadium was unable to be used for the cup and seems likely to be abandoned as a sporting venue. In July 2012 the Hadlee Stand on the right was demolished.
