In time for the 2011 Rugby World Cup, Dunedin decided to replace its traditional ground, Carisbrook, with a new purpose-built covered stadium. It had seating for over 30,000 people, and by the time it opened in August 2011 it had cost more than $200 million. Private-sector funding was therefore important and Forsyth Barr, a sharebroking and investment banking company, purchased naming rights to the stadium. Their name and logo can be seen prominently displayed at the venue.
