Starting pontoon, 1978 rowing world championships

The 1978 world championships were held at Lake Karāpiro. This image shows the start of the eights, in which New Zealand won bronze, its only medal. The starting pontoon visible here was designed by Don Rowlands, who was also the chair of the organising committee.
