Starting pontoon, 1978 rowing world championships

The 1978 world championships were held at Lake Karapiro. This image shows the start of the eights in which New Zealand won a bronze, its only medal. The starting pontoon visible here was designed by Don Rowlands, who was also the chair of the organising committee.
