John Kirkcaldie is shown here competing in the elite men’s downhill at the 2006 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships at Rotorua, just before he retired as a professional mountain-bike rider. In 2005 he had won the New Zealand National Championships downhill and four-cross events, and had finished third overall in the NORBA downhill series.
