Although aged just nine when this photo was taken in 2010, Travis Smith already had three years' experience behind the wheel of his racing kart. He is seen in the pits (the area used for refuelling or repairs) before the final round of the Mainland Race series at Silverstream Raceway, Dunedin, receiving last-minute advice from his mother and pit crew, Deborah Smith. Travis's father, Colin Smith, was a race official.
