Hockey tournament, 1910

Nelson women play Whanganui women at a national tournament. Hockey was one of the few organised sports that welcomed women's participation from the beginnings of the game in New Zealand. Perhaps this was because the game was less associated with definitions of masculinity than other winter sports such as rugby and football.
