C. Gillies, wearing a cloth cap, a white shirt and tie, and a tweed suit of jacket and plus-fours (knee-length trousers), wears attire considered suitable on a golf course in 1901, when this photo was taken. In that year the Auckland Golf Club (founded in 1894) moved from its original property at Greenlane to a new course located partly on One Tree Hill domain and partly on Cornwall Park. Gillies is teeing off during an exhibition foursome at the opening of the new course.
