Home-made caravan, around the 1920s

This contented-looking group have parked their caravan in a forest clearing, probably in the 1920s. Two tents are set up nearby to provide further accommodation. Commercially produced caravans did not become available in New Zealand until the 1950s, but for several decades before that resourceful campers built or adapted their own. Vintage caravans are now greatly sought after by collectors.
