The use of stained-glass windows in houses reflected changing architectural styles, as well as the aesthetic taste and wealth of the properties' owners. This Christchurch house has fanlight windows featuring tulip motifs of art nouveau design, a popular style in the early 20th century. The use of the art nouveau style and the bay window suggest the house was an early bungalow, built during the 1910s.
