Climate observation, Kiribati

Climate observation, Kiribati

This photograph shows the release of a weather balloon, at Tarawa, Kiribati, in 2007. The balloon was used for upper-air observations as part of the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS). New Zealand is involved with a number of projects supporting meteorological and climate observation work in the south-west Pacific. The signatories to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) have called for financial and technical assistance to enable developing countries, such as Kiribati, to improve their climate observation systems.
