This carefully posed photograph shows the Rockstrow family, who were of German extraction, in the 1890s. John Frederick Rockstrow (far left) was a doctor working among miners on the West Coast when he married Anna Gapper (far right) in 1873. They settled in Manawatū and had eight children.
