Archibald Barrington, one of the foundation members of the Christian Pacifist Society in 1936, remained committed to his views despite hostile reactions from other people and imprisonment during the Second World War. In the 1950s he travelled around the South Island spreading the pacifist message with fellow activist Merle Hyland, in this vehicle which they called the 'peace caravan'.
