Getting on the electoral roll, 2008

An electoral enrolment official at Avondale markets in 2008 is taking part in a drive to get all eligible voters on the roll. Nationally, people aged 18–29 made up 53% of those not on the electoral roll, but there were variations between electorates. In the South Island electorates of Waitaki and Rangitātā, for example, voters between 30 and 39 and those over 65 were the groups most likely to be missing from the roll. Although voting is a personal choice, enrolling is a legal requirement.
