The Supreme Court building in Wellington, which was officially opened in 2010, was designed by architects Warren and Mahoney. It is inspired by the natural beauty of New Zealand.
The court room (top) is designed to be visible from the street. Its exterior is made from copper, and the interior features panels of silver beech. Together they form a diamond pattern reminiscent of the kauri cone.
The outside of the building (bottom) is enveloped in a bronze screen that represents the intertwining of rata and pohutukawa. Red glass inserts represent the berries and flowers of these trees.
