Logs accounted for most shipping, by both volume and value, from the port of Gisborne in 2011. In February 2011 a monthly record of 200,000 tonnes was set – close to the port’s annual export volume in 2006. In addition to the 90-hectare storage yard at the port, part of which is pictured here, an additional yard was created at Matawhero in 2011.
