Commonwealth secretary-general Don McKinnon

New Zealand politician Don McKinnon was Commonwealth secretary-general from 2000 to 2008. The secretary-general heads the Commonwealth Secretariat, which organises summits and meetings of ministers, assists with policy development and aids multilateral discussion between member governments. During McKinnon’s tenure, a coup in Fiji and violence during elections in Zimbabwe were particularly challenging matters.
