As the minister for social development, Paula Bennett held political responsibility for the performance of Work and Income New Zealand, the part of the Ministry for Social Development that administered social welfare benefits. Here, Bennett (right) speaks to Claire Mason, a case manager at the Work and Income centre in New Brighton, Christchurch, five days after the September 2010 Canterbury earthquake.
