Fo Guang Shan temple was the largest Buddhist temple in New Zealand when it opened in Manukau city, South Auckland, in October 2007. Seen above, preparing for the opening ceremony, are Buddhist nun Rev. Man Wang and May Wang, chief executive of the opening-ceremony committee. The lower photo shows one of the meditation halls, with a giant Buddha carved especially for the temple from Burmese jade.
