These trainee kindergarten teachers are working with children at a training college model school in Dunedin in 1910. Kindergarten associations ran two-year teacher-training programmes. The government funded teacher training after the Second World War. From 1973 training happened within teachers' colleges. In the 2000s early childhood education teachers were trained at universities, polytechnics, institutes of technology and private institutions.
