Schist in Marlborough

Schist in Marlborough

Schist is a metamorphosed rock which is found in a zone extending through the Richmond Range and into the Kenepuru and Queen Charlotte Sound area. The area is bounded on both sides by belts of greywacke. Consistent with the theory of land movement on either side of the Alpine Fault, this zone of schist is paralleled by a much larger schist zone on the other side of the Alpine Fault in Central Otago.
