Some school dental clinics employed two nurses. At Ōtaki School in October 1971 Nurse Gardner (left) and Nurse Whetren pose with their two patients, Kay Ludlam (front, in her Brownie uniform) and Linda Chong. Gardner attended the same dental clinic when she was a pupil at the school. Dental nurses in the 1970s still sported the distinctive white veils worn by nurses in the 1920s. However, the veils became steadily smaller until they were abandoned completely.
