Kōrero: Families: a history

Most children leave home, and sometimes eventually care for their parents. Other children need care when they are adults. Cliff Robinson (73) looks after Marita (42) and Johnny (40) in their home in the Coromandel. Marita and Johnny's mother left many years ago and Cliff gave up his job to look after the children. They were both born with microcephaly – a condition which results in intellectual disability. Marita and Johnny go to a training centre during the day, but help out with cooking and other tasks around the house and garden. Cliff, Marita and Johnny go out for fish and chips, visit the local pub and have also travelled overseas.
