Grandparents as carers

Grandparents sometimes become the primary caregivers for their grandchildren. Margaret Aspinall looks after her four-year-old granddaughter Jayde. She has argued that, just as sole parents caring for their children can access a training incentive allowance, grandparents in the same situation should also be able to apply for this allowance.
