A group of Chinese children were brought to New Zealand from Hong Kong in 1963 in the wake of civil conflict in China. Their adoptions by New Zealand parents were arranged by the Catholic Immigration Committee and the St Vincent de Paul Society. Both children look nervous – it would have been a confusing experience for the new arrivals.
