In 1905 the Department of Industries and Commerce organised an exhibition of New Zealand goods at the Liverpool Colonial Products Exhibition in England. Meat, timber, hemp, butter, cheese, grain, seed, kauri gum, wool, and rugs and blankets from the Mosgiel Woollen Factory were shown. The department reported, ‘It may be said without any fear of contradiction that New Zealand showed up far ahead of its Australian neighbour … the New Zealand stand compared favourably with any other in the hall’.
