This 1977 photo shows a New Zealand Patent Office official holding the certificate granting the eighth New Zealand patent. Issued in 1863, the patent was for an improved ‘Mode of preserving animal and vegetable substances’ developed by James Lorimer, Matthew Marwood and Robert Rome.
