Multi-unit housing like these beachfront apartments in Tauranga has always been rare in New Zealand. Since the 1980s, however, it has become more popular as an affordable way to live near the city centre. The traditional suburban qualities of separation from neighbours and a private section have been outweighed by location and urban style.
