As immigrant populations have become more settled in New Zealand and diversity more readily accepted, cultural festivals have emerged in cities. Some have become very large and are important dates on a city’s cultural calendar. While events like the Chinese Lantern Festival in Auckland generally celebrate the culture of one ethnicity, they also allow people from different communities to mix, mingle and learn.
