Wairoa River bridge, 1988

Northern Hawke’s Bay was badly damaged by Cyclone Bola, which struck this district and East Coast in March 1988. Heavy rainfall increased the level of the Wairoa River, and the central span of the town’s bridge was washed away by the floodwaters.
