Kōrero: South Pacific economic relations

These young women from the Tokelau islands are arriving in New Zealand in 1966 to work at church institutions. Their small islands became New Zealand possessions in the early 20th century, and in 1948 the people became New Zealand citizens with a right of free entry. Tokelauans began to migrate to New Zealand in the 1960s, when their islands could no longer support their population.
