Horticulture on the Heretaunga plain

Horticulture on the Heretaunga plain

Hawke’s Bay is New Zealand’s largest apple-, pear- and squash-growing region, and the second largest wine-growing region. Most of these crops are grown on the Heretaunga plain. The intensively cultivated plain close to the region’s two cities makes for a visually distinctive landscape. It contrasts sharply with the low-density pastoral farms that dominate the rural districts of the region. This view shows Napier in the distance.
