This is the reverse side of the postcard depicting the YMCA hostel in Willis St, Wellington. Dated 13 September 1918, it was sent by one Thomas to Nell – possibly a girlfriend who lived in the UK. It reads:
Wgtn 13th Sept 1918
My dear sweet Nell.
Uncle Tom informed me last night that there was another English mail which closes at 8 P. M. (late fee) this evening, so thought I would send you a card rather than miss it altogether. I went to see Alice Louise last night. She is a bit run-down & her heart is still a bit weak as a result of the goitre trouble she had about 2 years ago. Alice is having a quiet rest in a private hospital & is doing splendidly. I took her a book [?] some mandarines & sent a lovely lot of violets earlier in the week. Alf [?] embarked for American Wednesday evening where is going on a purely business trip. He may go to Japan also, but will not be away longer [?] than he can help. Alice (sister) sent me a note to say she & Wal have secured a home which is near to where they are now living. They do not shift until early next month. Oceans of love. Thomas
