Women of the settlement (3 o 3)

Women of the settlement

Many of the original Akaroa settlers were comparatively old, and few children were born into the community. By 1878 there were only 27 remaining members of the settlement. However, a small band of descendants continued to live in the area – among them these four young women of the Le Lievre family: from left, Aileen, Myrtle, Jeanette and Louise, photographed in the early 20th century.
