When Telecom was sold in 1990 the government of the day made three pledges. Telecom's new owners were required to provide local free calling to all residential customers, to keep price rises for standard residential rental at or below cost-of-living increases, and to keep telephone costs for rural customers no higher than for city dwellers. The three pledges, shown here apparently carved in stone, were actually carved in polystyrene. In 2009 the location of the polystyrene pledge card was unknown.
