Te Herekiekie's house at Tokaanu

The Reverend Richard Taylor, who made this sketch of a carved whare, noted that it was built by 'Te Heuheu' (probably Iwikau Te Heuheu Tukino III) for Te Herekiekie to symbolise the end of an argument between them, possibly over leadership of Ngati Tuwharetoa.
