Edward Hodsell served in India before he left to come to New Zealand. Here, he sits with a trophy crocodile. In 1926 he came to New Zealand hoping to be an army instructor, but because of a shipping strike in Sydney arrived too late to put in an application. He took up land in Northland until the depression drove him and his family off it.
