This 1885 advertisement for the auction of land in Remuera, Auckland, was typical of the time. There was a real estate boom in Auckland, and agents used all kinds of ploys to generate excitement and interest. This advertisement says that ‘a cold luncheon will be provided’ for prospective bidders, and there is also the promise that six sections will be given away free.
