Some accommodation houses were no more than shacks. The Dew Drop Inn in Taranaki gives little sign of lodgings provided for weary travellers. Bottles of alcohol occupy a prominent place in the window, no doubt to lure workers into the premises after a hard day’s work felling the forest in the background.
