Macrocarpa trees have been part of the farm landscape since the 1860s. They are fast-growing, tough trees, which can withstand strong, salt-laden winds. Stock can shelter under their spreading branches when conditions are very hot or very cold. This stand of macrocarpa trees is on the Otago Peninsula.
