Kōrero: Modern mapping and surveying

Chief Surveyor Peter Lawson poses with district roll plans, which were to be scanned as part of Land Information New Zealand’s project to digitise land information and make it available for sale over the internet. The project, Landonline, was first approved in 1996 and the first stage was implemented in Dunedin in 2000. It has been criticised for both the cost and the time it took, as well as prices charged and delays in processing land transactions while the system was being implemented. Landonline is now the only way in which survey plans and land transactions can be processed in New Zealand.
