Kōrero: Taranaki tribe

Mt Taranaki (Mt Egmont)

Mt Taranaki

Mt Taranaki, pictured here, together with the Kaitake and Pouākai ranges, dominates the Taranaki tribal area. The mountains are central to the identity of the tribe: the original ancestors were called Te Kāhui Maunga – the people of the mountains.
