The Coopworth was named after Ian Coop, who developed the breed by crossing the Romney and Border Leicester. Coopworths are not bred for their looks, but for productivity – fertility, lamb growth rates and wool quality. This flock has features of both the source breeds – from the heavy, round Romney type with a woolly head, to the leggier Border Leicester, which has no wool on its face and very little on its head.
