Kraft’s strawberry gardens

John Kraft harvests 500 tonnes of strawberries on 12 hectares of land at Coatesville, near Auckland. The plants are grown on raised ridges covered in black polythene. Water and nutrients are supplied to the roots through pipes buried along the ridges. The polythene prevents weeds growing and raises soil temperatures.
