McCahon’s Titirangi home

McCahon’s Titirangi home

Between 1953 and 1960 the artist Colin McCahon (seated left) and his family lived in this small house in French Bay, Titirangi. The bush setting inspired some of his painting, including a large mural in the living room. In the early 2000s the McCahon House Trust purchased the house with the aim of preserving it. The Trust runs an artists’ residency, which gives artists an opportunity to develop their work during short-term stays in the house.
