Lyall Bay, 2007

The stretch of land between Lyall Bay and Evans Bay in Wellington was once a dune land. In 2007 it was a built-up suburban area, and the site of the city’s airport. The only remaining dunes form a narrow strip along the Lyall Bay foreshore, from which sand still drifts across the road in strong southerlies.
