Ball's Clearing Scenic Reserve

Ball's Clearing Scenic Reserve

An area of native forest fenced off from surrounding pasture, Ball’s Clearing Scenic Reserve in Hawke’s Bay is typical of New Zealand’s scenic reserves. Many were established because local communities wanted to preserve some original vegetation in areas that were being logged and converted to farmland. Scenic reserves vary in size from less than 100 to more than 1,000 hectares.
